The gods of the world—from Greek to Norse to Hindu mythology—gather every one thousand years to make one important decision: whether or not to wipe out mankind. Repulsed by humanity's selfishness, the council unanimously votes to destroy all humans. But before the decree is enacted, Brunhilde, one of the 13 Valkyries of Valhalla, interrupts the meeting to give mankind a chance at survival.

Brunhilde proposes the idea of enacting Ragnarök, an event in which the strongest 13 mortal warriors fight against 13 gods in one-on-one matches. Although the trial is ridiculed by the gods, the demigod takes advantage of their pride and forces them into an agreement. Baki the Grappler (2001) 

Baki Hanma competes in an underground fighting tournament organized by Tokugawa. Masters of various fighting styles come from all over the world in order to determine who is the strongest fighter on earth. A battle for the ages happens in this anime and to see various fighting styles come together in one place is pretty awesome. The tournament lasts a while and it’s hard to determine who is the strongest one.

 

Baki (2018) 

The protagonist, Baki Hanma, trains with an intense focus to become strong enough to surpass his father, Yujiro Hanma, the strongest fighter in the world. Baki and Baki the Grappler are two series that work hand in hand. Watching Baki train and then go into battle is entertaining and also heartfelt because of the tie to his father.

 

Yasuke (2021) 

He came from Africa and fought alongside a mighty feudal lord in brutal 16th-century Japan. They called him the Black Samurai, and he became a legend. Yasuke is probably the most recent character to have audiences pumped to watch him. The Netflix series broke ground on the platform and opened so much for other anime.

 

Platinum End (2021) 

An angel recruits a young man into a battle to become the next God. To be able to recruit a young man and make him the next God is a difficult task and we get to see what that entails in this series. It’s fascinating to see how it all works.

 

Battle Game in 5 Seconds (2021)

Akira Shiroyanagi, a high schooler who loves games and Konpeito (Japanese sweets), has suddenly been dragged into a battlefield by a mysterious girl who calls herself Mion. Being dragged into a battlefield may sound scary, but Akira knows exactly how to handle it. Even if he was taken by a mysterious girl, things could always end up differently for both of them.

Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eki (2015) 

Based on the table-top roleplaying session involving Gen Urobuchi, Kinoko Nasu, and more. Chaos Dragon tells the story of two countries locked in a never-ending war. This series is interesting because of the never-ending war, it is something that is relevant today as well. Viewers get to see both sides of the spectrum and understand their reasoning.

 

Magical Girl Raising Project (2016) 

A social game entitled ‘Magical Girl Raising Project’ secretly turns some players into magical girls. But when Nabuka city has sixteen magical girls an announcement is made that only eight can remain. Half of the magical girls will be cut and it turns into an intense series because of the battle to hold on to the project.

 

High-Rise Invasion (2021) 

High schooler Yuri finds herself atop a skyscraper in a strange world, where she must survive against masked assailants bent on killing their prey. Yuri is just being thrown into the action in this series and it’s a lot of fun to see her work through all the assailants.

 

Class of the Titan (2006) 

Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greeks worshiped the gods on Mount Olympus. In the 21st century, the descendants fight to protect the world from the evil Cronus. A great Greek gods-based series that tells the lore quite well and explores different avenues when beating Cronus.

 

Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions (2016) 

Haruhiro suddenly wakes up, with no memory but his name. There are a lot of people around, but no one seems to know anything. Haruhiro forms a party of some of the people and starts exploring. Forgetting who you are is one thing, but forgetting and being in a strange environment is another. So Haruhiro adapts quite quickly and makes for an interesting series.
